Maca has been cultivated in the Peruvian Andes at 4000 metres above sea level for over 3000 years. It grows slowly and is resistant to harsh climatic conditions. This yellow taproot was already familiar to the Incas, for whom it was a favourite food and energiser. And it is a well known fact that maca contributed to the affluence of the Incan culture. Even today, the inhabitants of the Peruvian Andes consider eating maca to be good for one’s health, as well as promoting longevity.
